We are excited to announce the beta release of Librarika Kiosk, a self-service kiosk application that lets patrons check out and return library items on their own — no staff needed at the desk.
Librarika Kiosk is a free desktop application that runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It connects to your library through the Librarika SIP2 Service and provides patrons with a clean, touch-friendly interface to manage their own borrowing.
Key Features
- Self-Checkout & Self-Checkin — Patrons borrow and return items independently with instant confirmation and due dates.
- Barcode Scanner Support — Works with any USB barcode scanner in keyboard-emulation mode. Just plug in and scan.
- Patron Status View — Patrons can see their checked-out items, overdues, and fines at a glance.
- Kiosk / Fullscreen Mode — Lock the software into fullscreen for public deployment with keyboard shortcuts disabled.
- Receipt Printing — Print receipts using your system printer, including POS and serial printers.
- Auto-Logout — Sessions end automatically after inactivity, clearing all patron data for the next user.
- Cross-Platform — Use the hardware you already have. No special kiosk equipment required.
- Privacy & Audit — Session data is cleared on patron logout. All events are logged locally on the device for admin audit purposes.
The application is designed to be simple enough for any patron to use without training: scan a member ID barcode, view account details, scan items to check out or return, and log out. That’s it.
The application is free to download and use. A Librarika SIP2 account is required to connect to your library. SIP2 accounts are licensed separately.
